The sneaker explained: mat the supply of electricity was unlimited and It could not be adulterated. All that man could do was to harness it and put U to work. Development of electrical knowledge had been so great it was difficult keeping pace with its growth. Man was the only creature that aould measure things and electricity was of no use until it could be measured. It had been found that it travelled 136.000 miles per second, so rapid that it could travel from the earth to the sun in eight minutes. Was It any wonder that electrical engineers lived a fast life. The electron was the life cell of electricity. Mr. Valentine said. It was the smallest substance known. When in action these electrons uoved so rapidly that the pace was shocking. Tracing the growth of electrical Knowledge from the first person to .ucover that by rubbing a piece of ;.:ber it would attract straws to the 1: e v. hen Thomas Edison made the ;:. gene.ator with one and a halt cilowatt power that supplied energy i 25 customers'and on to the pre sent day, Mr. Valentine kept the :iub m embers intensely Interested aU the time. He told of the 2.000 horse, power oi&ni at the dry dock which tjok $100 of coal a day to keep it going and employed 12 men. The energy at Falls River cost notir- lnc beyond harnessing and tuck only two men to operate, yet it would develop Ultimately 30.000 horsepower. 8om of the intererting details' Of control and safety devices wreei plained and it was shown that Ifee 'tew ploni would be the Bcarest thing to perpetual motion yet dis covered. The people here would not le pay in- for the electrons or for the water that was the motive power but for the collection and Jistrlbjtion of the energy.
