Monday, April 14, 1930 SATISFACTORY RESULT : While the conference at London on naval armaments has been somewhat protracted and the results have not been what some people expected, the result on the whole, seems to have been fairly satisfactory. At any rate there has been a lot of plain talk and the most powerful nations in the w orld now understand each other better than ever before, which is a step in the right direction. In any case naval reduction must come slowly. It would cause a lot of trouble to change things all at once. Men would be thrown out of employment and hundreds of industries now depending on the navy would be put out of business. Now, fair warnins is being given that reduction of world navies is likely and preparations will have to bej made to meet the situation industrially. " ALWAYS SOMEONE INJURED No matter how beneficent a law may be there is always some one injured by it. 'Changes always hurt. It is impossible to make any reform without some person feeling the pinch. Even, the building of a new post office here would hurt some one temporarily .and so might the erection of d C.N.R. Hotel. Yet it is impossible to stop improvements' for fear of the minor consequences. The benefit of the whole community is the first consideration. DE VALERA BUSY The leader of the republican party m Iceland is raising money in the United States to start a daily newspaper in Dublin. At present the newspapers in that city are not campaigning against the government. They represent the people who are satisfied. It is realized that without a bi'- campaign it will be futile to try to stir up the people of the! country. But why stir up the people'? WcWis1'?i'eeded fti most countries is not the inflammable1 MbUrllfllism that stirs up people to make changes by means ofstoited reports butl tne sane journalism that gives the news without bias. ALPINISTS Value far above the Price IN REVIEWING the many advantages of the Fortl car, it is particularly interesting to note the relation between value anil price. - The low first cost is a point to keep in mind at all times because it means a con siderable saving to you in the purchase of A II' the car. Of even greater importance, however, is the reason for this low price and the manner in which it has horn achieved without sacrifice of quality or performance. Every purchaser shares the benefits of the Ford policy of large production at low cost of selling at a small margin of profit of constantly giving greater and greater value through the vast Canadian organization that lias leen built up for the, making, selling and servicing of this car. A new degree of excellence lias been brought within reach of nil 'the people through the development of new manufacturing machines and the discovery and working out of new manufacturing methbds. Evidence of this is found in the extremely ' close limits of measurement maintained in the manufacture of vital parts.
