Box 54 FRASER STREET Prince Rupert TALKS ABOUT BIG COMPANIES Bruce Mickleburth Advocates Elementary Rights of Citizenship ' Reporting to Labor-Progressive campaigners gathered In their clubrooms Monday plight. Bruce Mlckleburgh, federal candidate, for .Skeena, cited alleged examples of how certain big companies had defied wartime regulations and. when people had attempted to organize In defence of the elementary rights of citizenship, had victimized ! them in a callous manner. "If I we the people of Skeena allow I ourselves to be divided to such an extent that this attitude con tinues, then we shall lose the peace in Skeena," he declared. "It Ls as true In Skeena as anywhere in the world that nothing come to us on a silver platter and that we arc as strong as our organizations. In1 a thousand miles of travel , through Skeena I have found j it strikingly ; apparent that, where the workers are well or- j ganlzed, their wages, condition.; , and morale are good. "The return of a so-called 1 simon-pure Liberal government, even If It were a possibility in the Canadian political s:ene. which it ls not, would win the 1 peace for Canada. The much- j touted twenty-five page repuit of the Hon. C.' D. Howe, brought down In the closing hours of the last session when there was no opportunity for discussion, states the number one post-war problem for Canada exactly a problem of finding well over a million new Jobs. But It offers no solution to the problem. It Is not likely that. If the government had a plan for providing full employment in post war Canada, they would want to hide that plan, yet if you write to the King's Printer for a copy you will be told It Is "out of print." As a matter or fact it was "out of print" a few hours after It was issued. -The Tories and the CCP know they cannot elect a ma jority in the next House. I LIBERAL POLICIES OPPORTUNITIES for Mil OUR Liberal Government under Mackenzie) King has taken practical steps to see that every Canadian after the war shall have, a 'wide-open chance to make a real success of his life. It can be done by giving everybody the opportunity to get ahead faster and go further. That, includes returned, men, farmers and .fishermen, factory workers and people in hutiness ami children every Canadianl Itn'l that what you .want a chanc.j to make your own way IN your own. way ? ;'He're are definite, practical steps which the Liberal Government has taken (not just talked about, but taken) to make this Canada a better place to work in and bring up your children. Vou will have to "decide whether you want the men who devised these measures to carry them through, or' whether you wish to entrust your own and your family's future ui others. Every one of the following 12 steps affects your job no Duller what it is aflef ihe warl. 1 l Reconstruction Liberal aim: Jobs for 900,000 more workers than in 1939; and 60,000 more each year as the population, grows. Every kind, of enterprise will he encouraged. The Liberal Government has already set up the machinery: the Department of Reconstruction. 'Hie Liberal Government has the man the. Hon. C D.-Howe under whose direction Canadians have done a great job in the war, and aro ready to do it In peace. 2 Foreign Trade Liberal objective: Sixty percent (60) increase in value over Canada's pre-war export trade. Tin's means thousands of jobs, and is based on ilie number of jobs created by Canada's normal export trade. Preparations are under way now: expansion of trade commissioner service; negotiations with United States and United Kingdom ami other countries, liberal policies and trade mean full .employment. O Credit for Enterprise Liberal belief: Money must serve the needs Of humanity. The people of Canada shall have economic freedom. We arc a great people we arc going to continue to do hiir tln'nvt afu r the.war. Therefore the Liberal Government set up the Industrial Development Hank to provide money .at low interest for long terms, Another step towards creating full employment. '? Exports Encouraged V7ar-iorn countries will want to buy tremendous quantities of 'Canadian goods.. Hut can they pay for them rightaway? Manufacturers can't pay tin ir help unless they can get money for their goods. .To overcome this obstacle to employment, the Liberal Government has set up the Export Credit Imuratite Ail. Tin's, does two things: (1) it insures Canadian exporters against loss, and (2) makes loans to foreift governments under contract to Canadian exporters. t , Form Imnrovement wf Loans Your Liberal Government has made low Jiiterest loani available to farmers to' finance their work. ami make improvements. - 6 ' Guaranteed Markets To provide farmers with a better income, under wartime conditions, the Liberal Government made contracts for definite - quantities of important products at agreed; prices notably bacon,, eggs, cheese and beef. 'These contracts have worked out so well the Liberal Government, extended many of the agreements for longer periods (in the above cases to the end of 1946). It has provided for guaranteed markets and income for Canadian' farmers. This increased, trade has' brought pros- feritv to' farmers, everywhere in Canada. Liberal egisiation (the Jgricllnnil Prices Support Act) guarantees future prosperity. 7 Family Allowances From July next, Family, Allowances are to be paid every month to parents for healthier, ' better clothed, better housed, better educated young Canadians. $250,000,000 a year direct spending power in the hands 01 people who need it most. Liberal monthly payments until age 16 (maximum total per child $1,224) will give all children a better chance to become vigorous happy ciliens. 8 'FISHERMEN, Call and sec the St. Uvtm Morrnrv V.S M..:. . disnlnvofl S .
