MAIR The Auctioneer WORK FOR SHIPYARD Continuec rrom Page 1 briefly outlined the purpose of the meeting which was primarily to bring pressure upon authori ties to insure that the shipyard was used to the most permanent and advantageous use. G. S. Stanton introduced an academic memorandum from the Boilermakers' Union advocating that the government take over Industries from private enterprise and operate them until such time as there was a new system of production and distri bution to replace the present worn-out economic system. Howard Hill, representing the Brotherhood of Railway Em ployees, listed reasons as to why it would be advantageous to keep the dry dock In operation. V. J, Scott told of communications which had been sent ly the Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce to the steamship companies urging them to make a survey of steamship requirements on this coast. There had been replies from the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways that consideration was being given. Mr. Scott felt that the steamers Prince Rupert and Prince George would not now be able to handle the traffic of tourists after the war and that now was the time to advocate the work of building new ships. C. G. Ham, for the Junior Chamber of Commerce, expressed the opinion that some effort should be made to secure the building of new naval vessels ships for China etc. for the local dry dock.
