LEAVING IT TO RUSSIA Exception Taken to Calumny On People of Ukraine and Soviet The national executives of the Ukrainian Canadian Association, the Ukrainian Labor -. Farmer Association and the Workers' Benevolent Association have is sued the following Joint "On January 22, in several Canadian cities and towns, small public gatherings, called on orders of the 'Canadian Ukrainian Committee' in Winnipeg, adopt ed resolutions which were widely publicized in the press and which. rjurrjortlns to sneak on behalf of Canadians of Ukrainian origin and even of Ukrainians in general calumniated the people and the government of the Ukraine and of the .UjS5lR. and demanded the intervention of the government of Canada in the internal 'affairs of .he1 Ukraine, and of our great ally, the. Union of Soviet Socialist RepuMlcs. "Our three organizations, and we know that we speak the sen timent of the Canadians of uk-rainian orlsin. wish to most emphatically dissociate ourselves from those resolutions and condemn them as rriischievouj, ir responsible and dangerous to the security and Interests both of Canada and of our ally the VS. SH., of which the Ukraine is a constituent part. "We declare that the political and social institutions of the Ukraine and its decision to be fpdpratcri with thi other frater nal republics in 'the mighty U. S.S.R. are the business of the people of the Ukraine and theirs alone. For emigres, who have been away from their nativejand for decades and have no in tention of returning to it, to interfere with the Inner affajrs of the Ukraine is, to say the least, presumptious'. "Loyal Canadians of Ukrainian origin look with loathing and contempt on these small groups of irresponsible emigres who would foul the country of their origin in the eyes of the Canadian public, the more so that these gentry's sympathy and collab oration with the German wouia-be enslavers and murderers of the Ukraine are well known and established. "We rejoice in the liberation nnri unification of the Ukrainian people and glory In the feats of heroism performed ty me pecpie of the Ukraine, the partisans and the Red Army, in the common struggle against the German foes of our country and theirs. "As Canadians, we reject and condemn all intrigues directed to undermining the firm alliance or nfir country with the U.S.S.R.. with which the sovereign, free nnri indeoendent Ukrainian Re public is voluntarily federated, In this great patriotic war and the lasting peace which will be established after the common victory. "By this statement we want to reassure the people' and government of Canada that the Cana dians of Ukrainian origin, irrespective of their political or re-lielous faiths, are loyal, demo cratic citizens of Canada and that the so-called Canadian Uk rainian Committee, its meetings and its resolutions, do not rep resent the sentiments or aspira tions of our people." For the National Executive Committees of: Ukrainian Canadian Association M. Dushney. Ukrainian Labor-Farmer Temple Association, J. Boychuk. Workers Benevolent Association, G. Krentz. Resolution In Prince Rupert The following resolution was passed in Prince Rupert: Whereas, on orders of the 'Canadian Ukrainian Committee' in Winnipeg public meetings were held on January 22, 1945, in sev eral Canadian cities and towns adopting resolutions which, pur-nortlne to sneak on behalf of all i Canadian Ukrainians; calumniat-.iinir thp riponle and the govern ment of Ukraine and of the US S.R. and demanded the Intervention of the government of Canada in the Internal affairs of the Ukraine, and Whereas, such action as that taken by the 'Canadian Ukrainian Committee' tends to disrupt unity and impede our war effort here at home and weaken the friendship between our country and the U.S.S.R. Therefore 'be it resolved, that we. the Canadian Ukrainians gathered at the- mass meeting February 25, 1945, Prince Rupert, B.C., resolve and declare that the action of the 'Canadian Ukrain ian Committee' in Winnipeg is un-Canadian and contrary to the best interests" of Canada and r?nnnrtlnns. As rUlzpns nf Canada we advise the Canadian Ukrainians to serve the 'best Interests of our own country here and let the 45.000.000 of Ukrainian people in the Ukraine work out their own destiny " Kenny Best Man For Lands Minister, C.C.F.
